Insurance Talent Movement Ready to Spread the Word

A group of young insurance professionals has committed to changing the conversation about insurance as a way to bring more people into industry jobs.

Calling themselves the "Insurance Talent Movement,” about 20 professionals from nine companies throughout Ohio are working together to “change perceptions, raise awareness and fill the pipeline.”

New Workforce Study Sets Tone for IIRC

A new study that shows an increasing number of projected insurance job vacancies by 2024 will set the stage for the industry's collaborative efforts to fill them.

Partners in the Insurance Industry Resource Council's (IIRC) Insuring Ohio Futures initiative recently heard firsthand new numbers that project a 29,000 shortfall in the number of professionals needed to fill insurance positions Ohio-wide. The IIRC commissioned economic research firm Regionomics to conduct the study, a follow-up to a similar one in 2013.

With Fall semester in full swing, students and the insurance industry had a great opportunity to engage last week at Gamma Iota Sigma's annual conference in Columbus. For industry organizations and conference sponsors, including Insurance Industry Resource Council (IIRC) members Nationwide, Westfield Insurance and Liberty Mutual, the conference was a talent catalyst and offered meaningful connections to the next generation of insurance leaders.

20 Graduates Ready for Great Careers in Insurance

Graduates of the Columbus State Community College insurance certificate program are one step closer to good jobs in the insurance industry.

On June 20, about 70 students, administrators, faculty and family members celebrated the participants’ graduation from Columbus State’s Certificate of Foundations in Insurance pilot program. The event marked a turning point for the tradtitional students, career changers and veterans who completed the program.

In 2012 there was not a single Ohio college graduate who received a degree in insurance. It was a troubling fact for an industry, which is considered an economic pillar for the state of Ohio. Insurance employs over 100,000 Ohioans and contributes billions to the state’s gross domestic product. The industry worked around this challenge by recruiting insurance talent from colleges in other states and by hiring students from related disciplines in Ohio.
